A memorial tribute concert for Eddie Money was held on 2/20/20 in Beverly Hills, California at The Saban Theatre. The singer-songwriter died of esophageal cancer on 9/13/19 in Los Angeles at age 70.
REO Speedwagon, Sammy Hagar, George Thorogood, Mickey Thomas, John Waite, Tommy Tutone, James Hetfield and others gave performances at the show which was taped for AXS TV. It will air on the network on 3/22/20 at 9pm EST.
Eddie’s children Jesse, Julian and Dez Money all sang to honor their father. The three joined Sammy Hagar for a cover of “Shakin”. Jesse and Dez as a duo covered the classic hits “Wanna Go Back” and “Take Me Home Tonight”.
Huey Lewis, Joan Jett, Bryan Adams, Dennis DeYoung, actor Kevin James, and others sent in video messages to the event to honor Money.
Legendary comedian Louie Anderson was the MC for the evening.
Money was a hugely popular fixture in Detroit, Michigan. He opened the DTE Energy Music Theatre (formerly Pine Knob) outdoor concert season every year from 1992 to 2019. The New York City native once called Detroit his “best town” because of that tradition. His first performance at the venue was in 1983.
Here is footage of Money performing “Baby Hold On” from DTE in Clarkston, Michigan on 5/25/19. He was clearly looking sick and frail but still determined to perform in what would end up being his last show at the amphitheater https://youtu.be/EB6fD3NjZG8
